Semana Santa - Puerto Rico - April 2009

Easter 2009, Adam and I enjoyed 10 wonderful days in Puerto Rico. We were astonished at the beautiful road system, the clean capital city, endless/spectacular beaches, nice people, and good weather. We thought there would've been a little more Latino culture but it was mainly a US culture we saw. Out of all the beaches we have seen Puerto Rico definately has some of the prettiest - looking forward to returning in the future.
After looking at the pictures I am sure you can tell that Adam enjoyed the surfing the most and of course my favorite part was lying on the beach reading.

Old San Juan
We spent 2 nights in Old San Juan. We were very impressed with how clean the city was. Old San Juan is very fancy and has a lot to offer. Our favorite part about Old San Juan was the old Spanish fort. Pic 1 - is of me in a store shopping, Adam thought this was very typical of me. Pic 2 - eating breakfast and checking out the guidebook Pic 3 - Houses in Old San Juan. Overall Puerto Rico was not as colorful as I had imagined.

Castillo San Felipe del Morro
The other fort (in the distance) in San Juan - a lot of locals gathered to fly kites

Rincon, Puerto Rico
Adam and I stayed in Rincon for the majority of our time in Puerto Rico. We stayed at Coconut Palms, right on the beach. Beautiful hotel with an outdoor kitchen.

Pictures from Coconut Palms (where we stayed)

We loved cooking and making coco locos in the outdoor kitchen - FYI, it is very difficult to open a coconut.

Surfing in Rincon
The Rincon area had great waves

Some random - beautiful beach near Jobos Beach (driving back to San Juan from the West Coast).

Adam eating an empanadilla - absolutely delicious street food - you can find them filled with shrimp, fish, beef, chicken, crab, conch, etc... We paid only $1.25 for this one, yummy! The typical food in Puerto Rico is the Empanadillas and the Mofongo. Mofongo is mashed plantains - usually served in a broth or stew, very tasty.

Weekend in El Salvador (Jess' Bday) - March '09

On a regular weekend Adam, Catie, Jess and I went to Sunzal, El Salvador for a weekend at beach to celebrate Jessie's birthday. We had a great time laying in the sun, playing games, surfing (Adam & Jess) and enjoying the fancy El Salvadoran Club. Jess had made friends with a surfer who was a member at the club on the beach so we spent one night in the hostel and the second night we got our own cabin at the club.
